SPEAKER:  Pastor Segun Aworeni
TITLE:  The law of responsibility (response - ability)
TEXT:  Gen 1:26-28

God blessed them - empowered them - or gave them ability, and as a result of the ability you can now be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it, have dominion.
Dominion - 'Kratos', "force, strength, might ", "manifested power". It is derived from the root word Kra - which means to perfect, to complete.
What does it mean to be responsible? - to be respectable, honourable. Responsibility is a coinage of two words - Response and Ability.
We all have response ability for every situation - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"
Responsibility is based on two key words - decisions and actions.
•Decisions are based on information - correct information.
•Our actions and in actions will determine our future and that of those in our sphere of influence. For some, thousands and others, millions.
•We have to take responsibility for our preferred destiny in order to take actions that produce the expected goal.
•There are no middle roads on the way to destiny. Neither is there a neutral gear position. Either way, you are engaged in something.
•There are no valid excuses for inaction when you are supposed to act.
•Even the irresponsible are responsible for their irresponsibility.
•Indecision is a decision in itself.
•You will give account for everything you did in the flesh.
In Matthew 25:14-30, Verse 15 - "..according to their own ability" Note: Their Lord empowered them to do business as they wish. No limitations, no specific rules. They were free to do whatever they liked.
We cannot afford to sit idly by and wait for something to happen.
"We deplete natures' natural resources by using them up. We deplete man's natural resources by failing to use them"
There is a story about Little Johnny. One Friday afternoon his teacher said to the class, 'Students, if any of you have an unusual event take place this weekend, please remember it and tell us about it on Monday morning.'
On Monday morning, Little Johnny sat at his desk, quivering with excitement. The teacher said, 'Johnny, it looks like something exciting happened for you over the weekend.'
With enthusiasm, Johnny said, 'Me and my daddy went fishing and caught seventy-five catfish, and they all weighed seventy-five pounds.' The teacher said, 'Now, Johnny, you know that simply did not happen.' Johnny replied, 'yes. Ma'am, it did!'
His teacher replied: 'Now, Johnny, if I were to tell you that on the way to school this morning all of a sudden a big, grizzly bear appeared in front of me and was about to grab me when suddenly a little yellow dog appeared out of nowhere, jumped up, grabbed the grizzly bear by the nose, broke his neck and killed him, now Johnny, would you believe that?'
Johnny cheerfully replied, 'Yes, Ma'am, I sure would! As a matter of fact, that's my dog!'
Our imagination brings creative solutions to many problems, so let's encourage our kids to use their creative imaginations in life.
The fig tree was cursed because it did not produce when its creator expected it to.
REASONS WHY PEOPLE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE•Denial: People find it comfortable to deny an ability. After all, if they deny their talents, then perhaps they can persuade others that they don't have anything to offer.
•Procrastination: They're going to use them in the non-existent future. Tomorrow is the greatest labour saving device ever brought to light.
•Fear: Fear of failure. Many people don't understand that failure is an event, not as person, so they decide to 'play it safe' and do nothing at all.
Make failure your teacher, not your undertaker. God has not given us the Spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. 1Tim , Pro 24:16.
The acronym for fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
It takes the same amount of faith to believe God for small things and big things. STRETCH YOUR FAITH. It is elastic, take giant steps. Take a big leap. You can do it.
•Blame game: People find it very comfortable to blame others e.g. people, equipment, background, race etc for their situation. An example is Adam who blamed Eve.
'If It is going to be, it is up to me.' Some of the saddest words you'll ever hear are "what might have been." Speaker Vicki Hitzges puts it in a unique and different way when she asks, "will you look back on life and say, I wish I had or I'm glad I did" ? You do have a choice.
•Past Experience: It is not what happens to you that determines how far you go in life; it is what you do with what happens to you.
In closing, let me share the story of Charlie Wedemeyer as told by one of his friends.
"One of the most remarkable men I've ever known is Charlie Wedemeyer. Charlie coached the Los Gatos high-school football team to the only state championship they've ever won.
I remember the day I attended a practice session with Charlie and his team. He and I were carrying on an extended conversation from the sidelines when periodically an assistant coach would run up and ask questions. Without hesitation, Charlie, who had been watching intently during our entire conversation, would spell out the specifics he should follow.
The amazing thing is that the only parts of his body he can move are his eyes and mouth. Charlie Wedemeyer suffers from Lou Gehrig's disease. His wife, Lucy, is his interpreter. She reads his lips and effectively delivers the message.
Charlie has the most remarkable attitude and the greatest sense of humour I believe I have ever seen. Though travel arrangements are difficult, he regularly speaks to people in schools, business, prisons, and churches. He has something to say, and Lucy verbalises it to the audience. He might be the only speaker in America who can't speak."
Needless to say, his life and wife communicate a powerful message of hope, love, and a "never-give-up" spirit. They both have a passion to make a difference!
